Expertise:
Bronson came to Lubbock in 1998 as a soil fertility specialist.
Prior to that he worked for six years at the International Rice
Institute in the Philippines and for Commonwealth Scientific
and Industrial Research Organization in Australia. Bronson's
expertise entails nitrogen cycling in plants and soils, including
studies with nitrogen-15, and improving nitrogen fertilizer
use-efficiency with management tools like the chlorophyll meter.
He is also strongly involved in site-specific nutrient management,
eg. spatial analysis of soil properties, spectral reflectance
of crops, and yield monitoring. More areas of interest include
nutrient management in reduced tillage systems and nutrient
by water interactions. Soil test correlation for nitrogen, phosphorus,
and zinc in cotton, sorghum and peanut is another research thrust.
Other areas of expertise include carbon sequestration and international
agriculture. Bronson also has a strong background in research
on environmental contamination/impact from nitrogen fertilizers,
eg. trace gas emissions, and water quality.
