Expertise:
Bynum was
employed by the Lubbock Experiment Station in 1976 as a technician.
He is currently an assistant research scientist. Bynum's research
deals with management of arthropod pests infesting corn, grain
sorghum, and wheat in the Texas High Plains. Specific research
interests include identification and management strategies for
pesticide resistance of insects (Diatraea grandiosella and Schizaphis
graminum) and spider mites (Oligonychus pratensis and Tetranychus
urticae). Studies and development of technology for improving
aerial and chemigation application have also been conducted.
Bynum's current work includes a focus on site-specific precision
agriculture with an emphasis on developing integrated cropping
systems. His cooperators include other entomologists, researchers,
extension, and industry personnel.
