Expertise:
Porter joined
the faculty of the Agricultural Engineering Department in 1998,
with a 75% Extension/25% Research appointment. She brought previous
experience in crop simulation and soil water modeling (USDA-ARS
Crop Simulation Research Unit); teaching and researching irrigation,
waste management, and general agricultural engineering (New Mexico
State University Department of Civil, Agricultural, and Geological
Engineering); and extension education (West Virginia University)
to this position. Porter's extension program addresses a wide
range of water management, irrigation, and water quality issues.
Her research program addresses efficient agricultural irrigation
management with Low Energy Precision Application (LEPA) and Low
Elevation Spray Application (LESA) systems as well as subsurface
drip irrigation.
Porter is a licensed professional engineer (Agricultural Engineering,
New Mexico). She is actively involved in the American Society
of Agricultural Engineers and the Texas Agricultural Irrigation
Association. She is collaborating on a number of interdisciplinary
projects addressing peanut production, sorghum production (sorghum
PROFIT), precision agriculture, and microirrigation design and
performance.
